Yes, I am for quotas, because this is democracy. In the society 50 percent of the people are women. So it should be clear that also 50 percent of the chairpersons in a parliament are women. That is the only how way democracy works. Out of my instinct gender equality should be normal.
I am in the green party of Germany. We love the quota system. We have always two leaders, from the highest position to the small group in a town. We are a feminist party so we overact the quota system. That means it is possible that there are two female leaders but never two men.
Maybe women are stronger and can establish themselves better than men?
There are groups in Germany who advocate that all women should do the household. From the outside Germany is a modern country, inside we have a lot to do for gender equality but we are on a good way and these conservative groups can’t stop this development. For example we have transfers to help women, especially single moms.
In Germany more women than men study and women also have better grades. So if a woman is better qualified than a man, she should get the job and earn the same as all guys, also in high positions. Without any determination there will be always men who hold on their force. For me every women can decide to do only household or only work or mixture.
No, not automatically. There are a lot of facilities like day-care centers, kindergartens and after-school care. That can help families especially women to work with kids.
But for sure you need a flexible job and employer. So companies and the social system have to work together to support families. Women and men must fight together for this, because we need women in our economy. Men alone can’t find every solution, we need women power.
No, I want to have kids for sure. But that means not that I can’t work. For me also my partner could raise the kids. In Germany a lot of men do this and really love it. Not only women can do household and kids. Raising kids is no matter of gender, raising kids is a matter of love.
There are a lot of supermen, but we are the superwomen. Every women can be or do, whatever she likes. We are here and we have the power. Non man can stop us.Interviewed by Isolde Scheffel, social worker.
