WES trains and supports women to be more independent and to realize their ideas by creating their own business. One of the nine WES departments can be found in Zarzis, Tunisia, in the bureau of Amani.
WES trains the women in soft skills: to be confident, to have a vision, to deal with changes, to have endurance. To say it shortly: to be a successful entrepreneur. But we also help them writing business plans or offer micro credits for realizing their own business ideas.
Many are doing handcrafts for example producing traditional furniture and jewellery or designing and sewing cloths. Some offer child care services.
But they also become florists or orthopedist.
Yes ,I have. It is called « Comptoir de Cuisines ». The woman attended in WES four years ago and established an atelier for kitchen design, especially with ceramics in modern and traditional ways. Futhermore she got a credit from us and now she is actually earning very well. She has four workers and is not only selling the kitchens but also the building materials. Therefore she is famous in the whole city.
It is. I love to see women who took part in the program, running their own business and earning their own money.
Since WES started, every single woman estabilshed her own business in the end. We have 37 participating women each month only in Zarzis.
I dont think so. Women and men are equal, of course. But there is a big inequality in the working sector. Often only men are founding new businesses. They are dominant. That is why we are focused on women. We want to give them more chances on the labour market and so we do.Photo by Amani, Interview by Theresa Streib, 03.11.17
