WES trains and supports women to be more independent and to realize their ideas by creating their own business. One of the eleven departments can be found in Zarzis, Tunisia, in the bureau of Amani.
Firstly, WES trains women in soft skills: to be confident, to have a vision, to deal with changes, to have endurance. To say it shortly: to be a successful entrepreneur. Then WES combines this empowerment with concrete business establishments. We encourage the women to trust on their abilities and to become also economically independent. We accompany and help them to write business plans or offer micro credits for realizing their own business ideas.
Many are doing handcrafts for example producing traditional furniture and jewellery or designing and sewing clothes. Some offer child care services. But they also become florists or orthopaedists.
Yes, I have. It is called « Comptoir de Cuisines ». The woman attended in WES four years ago and established an atelier for kitchen design, especially with ceramics in modern and traditional ways. Furthermore, she got a credit from us and now she is earning very well. She expanded and has four workers now. Additionally, she is not only selling the kitchens but also the building materials. Therefore, she is famous in the whole city.
It is. I love to see the personal and economic development and results from my “WES-women” and the impact they have by being independent, more confident, running their own business, earning their own money and being a role model for others as well.
Since WES started - which happened already before the Tunisian revolution - every single woman finally established her own business. We have 30 participating women each trimester only in Zarzis.
I don´t think so. Women and men are equal, of course. But there is a big inequality in the working sector. Often only men are founding new businesses. They are dominant and often more competitive. That is why we are focused on women. We want to empower, encourage and accompany them. We want to give them better chances on the labour market and so we do.

The work of WES is very well described. The interviewer asks for a favorite business and gives the inteviewed the opportunity to give a specific example for a business. The success and the number of the participating women is mentioned. WES offers a solution. I really like this interview. Well done.
